Despite the Skoda Octavia Mk4 only hitting forecourts last year, we’ve already seen reports on the owner’s clubs of people who experience DPF (diesel particulate filter) and GPF (gasoline particulate filter) warning lights. Since Skoda isn’t exactly forthcoming with offering proactive guidance to new owners, we’ve produced a guide on how to clean the filter yourself without a trip to the dealers.

Historically, Skoda’s have faired quite well with DPF and GPF issues from the MK3 onwards, so we suspect that a combination of short journies and low engine temperatures are the root of your issues. Put simply, the engine, filter and driving conditions / temperatures are not met often enough to trigger a succesful DPF / GPF filter regeneration.
