Volkswagen Group’s CEO Martin Winterkorn has confirmed that the two seater XL1 plug-in hybrid would hit the streets in low numbers in less than two years’ time.
The VW XL1 was unveiled to the world earlier this year at the Qatar Motor show.
Powered by a 27 horsepower electric motor and 48-horsepower two-cylinder diesel engine, the XL1 can go 100 km on less than a liter of fuel. That equates to just over 313 mpg by UK standards and 261 on the US cycle.
