Between April 1 and October 31, 2023, the Metropolitan Police registered a total of 987 crimes associated with ULEZ cameras. This figure encompasses 220 incidents of camera theft and 767 cases of camera damage.
Law enforcement has taken action, resulting in five arrests and two individuals facing charges related to ULEZ. Transport for London (TfL) has also revealed that they now employ security guards to support and protect their mobile ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) cameras.
The MET has released the following details
A man aged 41 residing on Foots Cray High Street, Sidcup, faces charges of criminal damage, malicious communications, handling stolen goods, and aiding or abetting the destruction of or damage to property valued over £5,000. Nicolls has been granted bail and is scheduled for trial at Woolwich Crown Court on June 10, 2024.
A 44-year-old individual faced charges of criminal damage in May but had their case discontinued by the CPS on Friday, June 9.
A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and has been released on bail until Tuesday, December 19, pending further inquiries.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on October 4 on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offenses. He has been bailed to return on a date in mid-December.
A man aged 39 of West Wickham, Bromley, was charged on October 28 with criminal damage. Nunn has been released on bail and is set to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on November 13.
Additionally, in May, the Metropolitan Police initiated an operation to ensure a proportionate response to ULEZ-related crimes.
