Tesla Motors have unveiled the new Roadster 3.0 which offers up to 400 miles on a single charge, an improvement of 50% compared to the range of the previous model.
This massive bump in range is down to a number of factors including battery and aerodynamic upgrades. The upgrade package will also be available to owners of the outgoing model once the new battery to passes safety certification tests.
The version 3.0 Roadster will feature a new 70 kWh battery that can hold 31% more power than the previous pack. Tesla have also reduced the drag of the car, which it said will improve the aerodynamics by 15%. They also reduced the rolling resistance, using new eco tires and wheel bearings. Combined these will give a 20% improvement in drag.
Details of the new upgrade are yet to hit their UK website however it’ll be interesting to see if the new performance battery will offer any increase of performance over the current version which can hit 60 just 3.7 seconds.
Tesla will be demonstrating the increased range of the Roadster with a non-stop drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles in the early weeks of 2015, a distance of over 380 miles.
There’s no word on pricing yet but the new Roadster 3.0 is likely to hit the selves before the summer. We’ll keep you updated!
